I just want to know what’s wrong with my body so I can deal with it effectively. Is that really too much to ask for???

I feel a bit validated right now. One of the senior consultants of the hospital saw me today, explaining to me both the exact sickness I have, but also making a point out of the fact that normally this sickness does not get diagnosed this early. Partly because it is rare, partly because the symptoms tend to be very nebulous. Normally it only gets diagnosed at a point of permanent organ damage. He (a specialist with this kind of sickness) has never seen a patient diagnosed with it, who had not yet suffered permanent organ damage.
The reason they caught it this early was, because I correctly self-diagnosed it as something auto-immunal. Sure, I was wrong about the specific auto-immunal reaction, but I was right on the money that it was auto-immunal.
Admittedly, I still do not get why the fact that it is auto-immunal was so hard to catch. Because to me it seemed so obvious. But according to him it is, because it was just over so many different organs, that normally doctors would just not have caught it as being one and the same thing.
But the moral of the story: My fucking self-diagnosis saved me from suffering permanent organ damage. So whoever ever again tells me that self-diagnosis is a bad thing can suck my fucking ass.

NPR: N.C. hospital sues an 18-year-old quadriplegic to make her leave
"Ratcliff, a quadriplegic who uses a ventilator, has lived at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist since she was 13. She wants to leave, too. But not to the nursing home the hospital found for her in another state.
She wants to live in a home nearby, close to her family and school.
When she refused to move to the distant nursing home, the hospital sued her for trespass."

I mean, anything can strain or burden the medical system, it's just a matter of whether you assign a judgement value to it or not.
The COVID-19 pandemic strained/is straining the medical system, but that doesn't mean that the people who need medical treatment due to COVID are bad or don't deserve treatment. Likewise, the Boomer generation aging is straining the medical system, but elderly Boomers are not morally bad or undeserving of medical care.
Someone with substance use disorder presenting to the ER is using medical resources, and if there are a lot of people, it can be a strain; however, people with functioning brains would look at that issue and say, "Huh, we have a lot of people having drug related emergencies, maybe we should implement harm reduction strategies, such as needle exchanges and safe use clinics!"
The vast majority of the people that often generate outrage for using resources would use less resources if there were institutional efforts to help them be healthy. Smokers? Anti-smoking campaigns, regulations, taxes, etc. Heart disease? Anti-smoking + nutrition education, access to fresh produce, subsidize fresh produce, workers' rights so people have time and energy to be active, etc. Drug users? Safe use education, decriminalizing use, safe use clinics, needle exchanges, free narcan, etc.
Disabled people are obviously always going to require some amount of medical resources, but they would still be less if we made an effort to make sure they get the care they need, when they need it, so we don't have to chase after very serious, emergent issues constantly. There's also probably a serious discussion to be had about people being disabled due to environmental/occupational hazards the government refuses to regulate/regulate enough, but that's a whole other can of worms.
people with medical issues are not “putting a strain on the medical system”. that’s what the medical system is for. yes this includes people with substance use related medical issues and other people often considered undeserving of help

In this day and age, it is so important to be your own advocate in the health care system. Tune in to this insightful conversation that Trent Brock and I had on the power of advocacy.
You can listen and or watch the full episode by clicking the link below!
Trent Brock is 3X terminal cancer conqueror and international small business entrepreneur. Trent introduced, owned and operated a kettle corn manufacturing business in New Zealand over fourteen years. In early 2019, he was diagnosed with aggressive pelvic/hip cancer. The surgery left him disabled with one leg shorter than the other (Doctors told him he would never walk again - he has been in a wheelchair/crutches over five years). Then he got lung cancer and later pancreatic with a less than 5% chance to survive. Trent made drastic changes to his diet, exercise routine, mental and spiritual outlook even though five specialists told him life was over and given a year to live. In the Spring 2021 he returned to the US to have cancer treatment from his now home base Bentonville, Arkansas.
As of today, he is almost three years cancer free! Trent is currently in the middle of a three-part journey-within-the-journey surgery recently having the largest, most complex hip implant ever done in the world. He is a few months from walking.
Turning his pain into purpose, Trent is now an inspirational speaker, cancer journey/patient self-advocate ambassador and best-selling author in "Breaking the Silence: Voices of Survivors Vol 1."
Catch up with Trent at www.trentbrockcoaching.com
Feel free to leave a review/rating/comment on Spotify and let us know what you thought about today's episode!

Surviving in a capitalistic regime like:
Tumblr media
[Image ID: Ralph from The Simpsons sits on a red bus seat at the back of the bus. He chuckles and says “I’m in danger.” While smiling a big smile with unfocused eyes. /.End ID]
The image ID for the original post is the following and I’m sorry if this is formatted incorrectly, I’m doing my best.
[Image ID: CBS News tweets “This 2-year-old’s family couldn’t afford his $20,000 electric wheelchair, and their insurance didn’t cover it. So, a high school robotics team built him one for free ❤️ (red heart emoji.) Then Public Citizen responded with, “This country is so accustomed to its monstrous health care system that when a 2-year-old child with a genetic condition needs to rely on a high school robotics team to meet his basic health care needs the media thinks it’s a feel-good story, not a dystopian nightmare. /.End ID]

At my job we are trying to get some union work going and it is tough as nails. I feel that flame of activist me burning higher every day. Nevertheless it is hard. Some of my co-workers are so into it and others don't give a shit. Today I had a discussion with one of them and it was exhausting. His arguments against unions didn't make any sense. I think he can't see through all of this mess. The people working in the german health care system need to be saved. And people like him don't get it yet.

Gaps in the Philippines' medical system force patients into debt, healthcare workers to leave for work overseas.
Many Filipino patients are turning to cheaper supplements that are unlikely to treat their conditions, as they are unable to afford medicine prescribed by their doctors.

As someone living in another country with an actual health care system (though one that’s under bad strain due to... well, not enough everything), I can’t emphasize this enough. The only reason I’m not bankrupt is because of my country’s national health care.
